Khammam: Imambi, (44), her paramour Mohan Rao, an autorickshaw driver, Venkat, a registered medical practitioner and Venkatesh, a tractor driver, together executed the murder of Jamal Saheb, (48) with precisely injecting the latter with a lethal dose of an anesthetic in Khammam's Mudigonda Mandal, according to Telangana Police.

Police said Imambi, wife of deceased Jamal Saheb, was in touch with Mohan Rao and Venkatesh over phone during the small hours on Monday which gave away the racket and sustained investigations led to the quartet's arrest and two others including the drug store owner Yashwanth who sold the anesthetic.

"Jamal Saheb was supplying woman workers for construction works across the district and he also involved his wife in the transactions. She would also travel with the workers. That's how she came into contact with Mohan Rao four years ago and their relationship grew," a senior police officer privy to the investigation said.

Police said Jamal who became aware of her relationship urged her to sever ties with Mohan Rao and reasoned with her to consider it for the future of their daughter who was living in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. An unrelenting Imambi and her paramour Mohan Rao decided to bump him off.

Mohan Rao and his friend Venkatesh convinced Venkat who in turn purchased anesthetic from Yashwant and handed over the loaded syringe to Imambi to be administered to the deceased two months ago. As Imambi could not administer the injection, the gang decided to eliminate Jamal outside his home, they added.

As planned Imambi went to her daughter's place and kept insisting Jamal to come and pick her up. Unsuspecting Jamal took the bait and proceeded to Andhra Pradesh from Khammam on his bike. When he was passing by Bopparam village, he gave lift to Venkat who gave the shot and fled the scene in a getaway bike which Mohan Rao and Venkatesh had kept on standby, the police officer said.

"Jamal who realised that he was being injected with something and rode a little further to a junction and recounted this to the bystanders there before he swooned. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed later," the officer added.

The incident stoked a regional paranoia where word around is that psycho killers on the prowl giving lethal injection to motorists in that region. Khammam Police Commissioner Vishnu Warrier constituted four special teams to investigate the case and to quell the rumours.

Another officer said the call records of Imambi were the key to solve the case. "She could not provide any reason to call Mohan Rao at that hour. Mohan Rao was in constant touch with Venkatesh and Venkat at the same time," he said. All three had switched off their mobile phones sparking suspicion which in turn led the police to unravel the murder mystery, he added.
