New Delhi: The appointment committee of the Cabinet on Friday extended the tenure of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Kumar Goel for one more year with effect from July 1. Similarly, Tapan Deka, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief. The current tenure of Goel, a 1984 batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre is expiring on June 30.
This will be the second extension of Goel who has earlier got a one-year extension. "The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved the extension in service of Samant Kumar Goel, for a period of time year behind his present tenure up to June 30, 2023," a note of the appointment committee of the cabinet said. On the other hand, Tapan Deka who was earlier serving as special director of IB has been appointed as its new chief for a period of two years.
