Kabul:The Taliban's takover of Kabul and Afghanistan in general will not impact the work of foreign aid workers as well as foreign charitable institutions in the country. The assurance was given by the spokesperson for the Taliban Suhail Shaheen.
“We assure all diplomats, embassies, consulates, and charitable workers, whether they are international or national that not only no problem will be created for them on the part of IEA but a secure environment will be provided to them, Inshallah,” tweeted Suhail Shaheen as western powers were seen in a chaotic rush to evacuate their citizens and diplomatic staff from Kabula nd other parts of the country
Yesterday, at the UNSC, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern against human rights violations happening in the country. “We are receiving chilling reports of restrictions on human rights throughout the country. I'm particularly concerned by account of mounting human rights violations against women and girls of Afghanistan who fear a return of the darkest days,” said Guterres
Echoing the possibility of severe rights abuses against Afghan women, the Representative of Afghanistan at the emergency UNSC meeting said, ”I'm speaking on behalf of millions of people in Afghanistan. I'm speaking of millions of Afghan girls and women who're about to lose their freedom to go to school & to participate in political-economic & social life.”
The Taliban, meanwhile, tried to allay the fears of rights violations,“The Islamic Emirate has ordered its Mujahideen and once again instructs them that no one is allowed to enter anyone's house without permission. Life, property and honour of none shall be harmed but must be protected by the Mujahedeen,” tweeted Suhail Shaheen.
The Taliban has also declared a general amnesty. The Taliban said that government workers should return to their posts and need not worry and can resume their regular duties.
In a blitzkrieg, the Taliban took over the country in a matter of two days as Americans withdrew from their 20-year campaign in the country. The western backed Afghan president Ashraf Ghani fled the country to an undisclosed location. Meanwhile, several soldiers of the Afghan defence forces surrendered without a fight to the Taliban resulting in the group's swift takeover of the country
