Ahmedabad: In a first, a businessman in Gujarat has gifted a one-acre plot of land on the moon to his two-month-old son. The infant is probably the youngest to have a piece of land on the moon.
Vijay Katheria, a resident of Sarthana region in Surat, said that he bought land on the moon as he wanted to do something 'special' for his son Nithya.

Talking to ETV Bharat, he said, "Ever since my son was born, I decided to buy a plot of land on the moon as I wanted to gift something 'special' to him."

The company then proceeded ahead with the documentation and paperwork and I got an email that my request has been accepted."

Surprisingly, the provisions of the Outer Space Treaty does not allow anyone to buy land on the moon. The Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom had come up with an international treaty, called the Outer Space Treaty, to prevent any form of colonial competition'.
According to Article II of the treaty, "Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means."
