Maintain water supply to Delhi, Apex court tells Haryana, Punjab

Saying it did not have time to hear the case today, Supreme Court today extended its order of maintaining the status quo on the supply of water to Delhi by Haryana and Punjab, and listed the matter on Tuesday after courts open post the Holi vacation.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today extended its order of maintaining the status quo on the supply of water to Delhi by Haryana and Punjab. The court said that it doesn't have the time to hear the case today and listed the matter for hearing on Tuesday after courts reopen after Holi vacation.

The bench led by the Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde, and comprising of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramnian were hearing a petition by the Delhi Jal Board against the state of Haryana for cutting levels of water and polluting the Yamuna river.

On 25th, March, the Delhi Jal Board had submitted before the court that they have written letters, its people have visited Punjab and Haryana but no response has been received. It alleged that 25% of the water will be lost.

Haryana had maintained in the last hearing and today as well that it has not been cutting the level of water. "I just want to say that we have not cut any levels," said Senior Advocate Shyam Divan appearing for Haryana.

CJI said that its order of status quo won't affect the state then and adjourned the matter.
