'Single Vote BJP' trends after party man gets 1 vote in TN local body polls

A BJP functionary's poll debacle turned out a troll material when the local body elections were announced in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. He secured just a single vote in the ward he contested and Single Vote BJP started trending in social media especially on Twitter.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu): D Karthik, a BJP functionary who secured just a single vote in the recent local body elections, has become a trolling material across social media platforms especially on Twitter. The local body elections were held in Tamil Nadu in two phases on Oct. 6 and Oct.9. The votes were counted on Tuesday and the results were announced.

In an interesting turn of events, Karthik, the BJP functionary from Coimbatore district contesting for the ward member post for the Ninth ward of Kurudampalayaam panchayat secured just a single vote in his ward. He contested as the independent candidate under the car symbol. The DMK functionary Arulraj won with 387 votes while another independent candidate Jayaraj secured 240 votes while the AIADMK functionary secured 196 votes.

As per the norms, the candidates contesting for corporations, municipalities and town panchayats would get party symbols. The candidates contesting in panchayats would contest as independent candidates under various symbols but the political parties would back their respective functionaries.

Accordingly, Karthik contested as an independent candidate in the car symbol. As soon as the news spread about Karthik's poll debacle, Otha Vottu BaJaKa (single vote BJP) started trending on social media. Netizens had the field day tagging the hashtag of Single Vote BJP and the hilarious comments followed.

The netizens pointed out even his family members did not vote for the candidate. In no time, the hashtag started trending on Twitter. Meme creators came out with their creativity using all the comedy scenes of Tamil movies to troll the candidate. Trolls and counter trolls ruled the social media on the single vote of the BJP functionary.
