Militant killed in ongoing encounter at Shopian in Jammu Kashmir

A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight between militants and security forces in Shopian district of Jammu Kashmir, police said on Saturday. A joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the Kilbal area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of militants.

A joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the Kilbal area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of militants, a J&K police official said.

"As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where militants were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter. One militant was killed and the operation was still on," the police official added.

Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the same on its official Twitter handle as well.
