Several naxals killed in encounter in Bihar's Lakhisarai

Several Naxalites were killed in a gun battle with police in the Lakhisarai district on Tuesday. Security forces have also recovered a large cache of weapons from the encounter site. The exact number of Naxalites killed is not yet confirmed.

Lakhisarai Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushil Kumar confirmed the incident saying that police had surrounded Naxalite Baleshwar Koda gang and search operations are still on in the area. Officials further said that the Naxalite activities were being monitored for the last several days under the supervision of SP Kumar.

Search operations were carried out in the dense forests of Bhima Dam in Jamalpur and Kajra, Abhaypur and in Piri Bazar of Lakhisarai.

SSB Battalion-32 jawans and the top commander of BSF and Para Military Forces had led the operations based on specific inputs about Naxals hiding in the aforementioned areas. The Naxalites began firing on seeing the security forces which led to the encounter.

A meeting of several officers was also organized with the former ADG SC ST General Director along with the Superintendents of Police of Jamui, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura and Munger, to chalk out a strategy to deal with the Naxalites.
