Search operation underway in Balaghat, two women Naxals killed

After two women Naxalites were killed in two separate encounters in Madhya Pradesh, police forces continued with their search operations. The police say they suspect a meeting of Naxals took place in Kirnapur before the encounter.

Bhopal: Police forces in Balaghat continued their search operations after two women Naxalites were killed in two separate encounters, an official said on Saturday.

Additional Director General of Police GP Singh, who led the operation, said: "We are suspecting that three women Naxalites met to carry out something big in Kirnapur forest. Two of them were killed in separate encounters in Balaghat district bordering Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra and they belonged to different groups."

According to police, both the Naxals had a bounty of Rs 14 lakhs on their heads.

"One of the Naxals, identified as Shoba Malajkhand, was a member of the Ariya committee. A total of 21 cases from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra were registered against her. We have also recovered 12 rifles, cartridges and ration from her possession," the police said.

"The other Naxal woman, identified as Savita, had 25 cases from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra registered against her," Singh added.

"Our team, along with hawk police force, launched a search operation after receiving specific intelligence inputs. We asked them to surrender but they started firing. The gun battle went on for 15 minutes in which two women Naxalites were gunned down," he said.
