SC rejects Delhi Jal Board plea on Yamuna water

A Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian refused to entertain the Delhi Jal Board plea on polluting the Yamuna river and cutting down the water level.

New Delhi:The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Jal Board today to approach Upper Yamuna Jal Board and make a representation relating to allegations of the release of water which is not sufficient at present.

The bench comprising of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian was hearing a petition by the Delhi Jal Board against Haryana for polluting the Yamuna river and cutting down water level leading to scarcity in Delhi.

Today while rejecting the plea the court observed that the petitioner can not approach the court every time and say that there is no water. Earlier the petitioner had sought the formation of a monitoring committee and that was constituted.

It also said that Haryana is providing whatever it can, in fact, more than that as per the records so it would be in the interest of the petitioner that it approaches the committee.
