New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the Chhattisgarh government's petition that had challenged the bail granted to Additional Director General of Police, Gurjunder Pal Singh, who is booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. "We find the present application is nothing but a totally unwarranted exercise on behalf of the state," said the bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Hima Kohli.
It said that just like an ordinary citizen is entitled to his rights under the Constitution, a high-ranking officer can also not be denied the same. "In case of disproportionate assets, most evidence is documentary evidence and there is no question of tampering such evidence. In any case, the High Court has imposed stringent conditions. The petition is without merits and dismissed," ordered the court.
