New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the use of Disc Jockey (DJ) services in Uttar Pradesh, setting aside the 2019 order of the Allahabad High Court. The Allahabad High Court had ordered a complete ban on DJ services in UP on August 20, 2019, terming the noise caused by DJ playing in wedding ceremonies as 'unpleasant'. The 2019 order was challenged in the top court which stayed the High Court's decision.

The apex court in its order said that only holders of the legally issued license can play DJ in Uttar Pradesh during wedding ceremonies. The Allahabad High Court had banned the BJ while mentioning the Noise Pollution Prevention Rules 2000. The order also maintained the 2005 order of the Supreme Court which talked about the negative impact of noise pollution on the lives of people.
