Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagarale has informed that a case under the Atrocity Act has been registered against the accused in the Sakinaka rape case. He said the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the victim's family. Talking to the media, he revealed the details of investigation into the rape case. He also slammed the false message being spread on social media about the case.
Commissioner Nagarale said that a press conference is being held to disclose factual information. He added that the crime has been registered under the Atrocity act and SC-ST act as the victim belongs to a particular community. An investigation is underway accordingly.

He further added that they have gathered all the evidence about when the victim came to the spot and met the accused and finally, how the accused fled after committing the crime. "We have also seized the main weapon belonging to the accused who has pleaded guilty. He will be kept in custody till 21 September. Special advocate Raja Thackeray has also been appointed for this sensitive case," he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the National Commission of Scheduled Castes has visited the crime scene. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, local MLAs, Chief Secretary, Additional Deputy Secretary and other officials all discussed the issue at the Sahyadri Guest House. The Chief Minister has appreciated the police investigation. He has announced various kinds of government assistance besides Rs 20 lakh for victim's family.
