Russian NSA Nikolay Patrushev set to visit India to discuss Afghanistan crisis

At the invitation of National Security Adviser Ajit K. Doval, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, General Nikolay Patrushev is visiting India for a High-Level India-Russia Inter-Governmental Consultations on Afghanistan starting from 7-8 September. Patrushev is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday evening and will meet India's NSA tomorrow.

New Delhi: At the invitation of National Security Adviser Ajit K. Doval, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, General Nikolay Patrushev is visiting India for a High-Level India-Russia Inter-Governmental Consultations on Afghanistan starting from 7-8 September. Patrushev is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday evening and will meet India's NSA tomorrow.

The visit comes at a time the world is witnessing a massive tragedy unfold in Afghanistan after the Taliban gained control in the war-torn country. Earlier on Monday, addressing media, Russian ambassador Nikolay Kudashev shared concern of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan spreading to Kashmir amid the Taliban takeover of Kabul.

He emphasised that India and Russia shared concern about terrorism and reiterated that Afghan soil should not be used for any terrorist activities. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the consultations are a follow-up to the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on 24 August this year. The two leaders had expressed that it was important for the two strategic partners to work together and instructed their senior officials to remain in touch on Afghanistan.
