Row over singing National Anthem at masjid in Agra

The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case over an audio clipping of what is it is believed to be a local congress leader discouraging the singing of National Anthem among a particular religious community.

Agra (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case over an audio clip of what is it is believed to be of a local congress leader discouraging the singing of National Anthem among a particular religious community.

Agra Shahar Mufti Majdul Khubaib Roomi, a local congress leader in Agra, protested against the unfurling of the national flag at the Shashi Jama Masjid by the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission Chairman and BJP leader Ashfaq Saifi.

On Independence Day at Shahi Jama Masjid, the mosque invited Ashfaq Saifi, Chairman of the Minorities Commission, to hoist the flag. On this, Saifi hoisted the flag for the first time on Independence Day at Shahi Jama Masjid.

This was followed by the singing of the national anthem. However, a viral audio clip of Agra Shahar Mufti Majdul Khubaib Roomi is now doing the rounds. Mufti Majdul Khubaib Roomi can be heard saying that singing of national anthem is haram (forbidden) and this will invite the wrath of God. All India Jamiatul Quresh has also called it wrong while supporting the Mufti.

UP Minorities Commission Chairman Ashfaq Saifi termed Mufti's statement as an irresponsible.
