Round-the-clock surveillance in Manipur to thwart any attempts to create disturbance by insurgents Tezpur (Assam):Indian Army, along with Assam Rifles, re-engineered the security architecture and numerous resources have been infused in Manipur on Wednesday. According to defence sources, especially against the backdrop of the prevailing security situation in which normalcy has now commenced to show visible manifestation and people are now returning to their homes.
Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat informed that in particular, the Indian Army is leaving no stone unturned to undertake surveillance of areas not only in the hinterland, but also along the Indo-Myanmar border. Round-the-clock surveillance through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) with specific tasking, deployment of MI 17 and Cheetah helicopters of the Air Force, and Army was being undertaken. Flag marches are being taken out to restore confidence among locals.

A total of 128 Army and Assam Rifles columns, unmanned aerial vehicles and other aerial surveillance assets in adequate numbers have been pressed into service to undertake 24x7 surveillance. Though Manipur was slowly returning to normalcy, the army was taking all measures to avoid any untoward incident as inimical elements may once again attempt to spread malicious rumours. Indian Army and Assam Rifles remain committed to restoring normalcy at the earliest and appealed to the people to disregard any malicious attempt to disturb harmony in the region through manipulated interpretation or misrepresentation of facts.
According to an Indian army official, "So far, the Indian army and Assam Rifles have evacuated more than 16,000 people from across the state. Flag marches are being held to control the situation," the army official pointed out. Security forces are also engaging in regular patrolling activities. Aerial surveillance and enhanced vigil are in place along the India-Myanmar border in Manipur to thwart any attempts to create disturbance by insurgent groups.
