Muslim group seeks action against hate mongers

Prominent Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind expressed grief over the murder of Rinku Sharma who was allegedly stabbed to death in Delhi's Mangolpuri. It also sought intervention from the Union Home Ministry to clamp down on hate-mongers.

Delhi: Prominent Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Wednesday expressed concern over the alleged incidents of provocation against the Muslim minority after Rinku Sharma was being stabbed to death in Delhi's Mangolpuri and sought intervention from the Union Home Ministry to clamp down on hate-mongers.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Niyaz Farooqui, spokesperson of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, said, "The statement by Delhi Police on the death of a boy in Mangolpuri came at the right time but a day after the incident people from a particular society visited the area aiming to disrupt the social harmony and this happened under the nose of police."

Notably, the police had said that the case was not communal in nature and stated that on February 10, during a scuffle at a birthday party in Mangolpuri area, a man got injured in stabbing and later succumbed to injury. A quarrel had started over shutting down of a restaurant and all persons were known to each other.

"The police and authorities related to the security of the nation must learn from what happened last year in northeast Delhi. The local residents are in fear. As the incident of murder is being given a religious colour, the government and the police administration need to take stern action against those who are trying to make the entire Muslim community guilty," he said.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind spokesperson further added that we are all saddened by the murder of Rinku Sharma and share the grief with his family.

He also urged the locals to not get provoked over inciting comments and requested the locals to be cooperative with the law and order authorities and help them in their research operation.
