Bengaluru (Karnataka): Encouraged by the Union Cabinet's decision to clear export of Akash anti-aircraft missile for any future export opportunities, BrahMos Chief Sudhir Kumar Mishra on Thursday said his company is capable and ready to scale up its production to meet any export order if the deadly supersonic cruise missile is also cleared for export.
In an exclusive interaction with ETV Bharat, Mishra said that the Indo-Russian joint venture company was working on a lighter and shorter version of the missile which will be mated with Sukhoi 30 MKI, LCA Tejas, and also with India's under-development medium weight fighter AMCA.

In order to achieve this goal, the Union cabinet cleared the export of Akash missile in December last year and also formed a panel, under the chairmanship of defence minister Rajnath Singh for granting fast-track approvals to defence exports.
The Akash missile systems have over 96 per cent indigenous components and the weapon can hit targets at a range of 25 km.
The government has been majorly focusing on boosting domestic defence production and set a target of Rs 1.75 lakh crore (USD 25 billion) turnover in defence manufacturing by 2025.
According to estimates, the Indian armed forces are projected to spend around USD 130 billion in capital procurement in the next five years.
