New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has refused to issue a notice against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the release of a picture of the family of a rape and murder victim on a Twitter handle. The High Court, however, issued a notice to Twitter directing it to file a reply by November 30.
Earlier, Twitter had suspended Rahul Gandhi's Twitter account for some time in connection with this case. Twitter had said that Rahul Gandhi had violated its policies. The account was restored only after the tweet was deleted.
It may be mentioned that a nine-year-old Dalit girl who had gone to a cremation ground in Purana Nangal to drink water from a water cooler was raped and killed. After this incident, Rahul Gandhi went to meet the victim's family members. He posted a picture from his Twitter handle of the victim's parents. Taking cognizance of this matter, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had August 4 ordered the removal of Rahul Gandhi's tweet. Following this order, Twitter suspended Rahul Gandhi's account.
