New Delhi:Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day following uproar by Opposition parties after it resumed at 4 pm. The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill, 2021 was taken up for discussion. Moments after the motion was moved by Smriti Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development, the House was adjourned following disruptions.

The Upper House passed the Marine Aids to Navigation Bill, 2021 amid the continuous din. Apart from the change in usage of the term marine aids to navigation, the Bill intends to create a new framework to establish and manage vessel traffic services. The colonial-era Lighthouse Act 1927 is repealed and the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) would be empowered with additional power and functions.

Question Hour spanned for a short duration. Even though Minister of Health Mansukh Mandviya responded to the question on vaccinating children against Covid, he was barely audible amid the Opposition's ruckus. Deputy Leader of the House Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi raised objection to the Opposition's sloganeering.

"Leaders of parties have voiced their concerns to me over the ongoing sorry state of affairs and for being deprived of raising issues of public concerns. I appeal to all of you to rethink this attitude," said Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.

"I am concerned about the media reports that some sections of the House are determined not to allow the House to function for the remainder of the session. Parliament is meant for making laws and to discuss public issues," added Naidu.

The entire day witnessed stormy sessions with three adjournments. MPs ventured into the Well of the House raising slogans and holding placards slamming the Centre over Pegasus snooping row.
