Rajasthan man arrested on espionage charges sent to police custody

Rajasthan man Satyanarayan Paliwal, who was arrested for reportedly spying for Pakistan, has been sent to police custody till January 13 when he was presented in a court of law.

Jaipur: Jaisalmer resident Satyanarayan Paliwal, who was arrested by CID special branch on espionage charges, has been sent to police custody till January 13. The accused has confessed to sharing sensitive information to a Pakistani woman agent after he was lured into a honey trap.

The accused was presented in a court of law and the police asked for a two-day remand from the authorities for further investigation. A probe into the matter has revealed that Pakistan Intel Intelligence (ISI) unit was running a fake account using a woman's name and Paliwal used to share Army-related information.

He has confessed to being in touch with an agent of Pakistan intelligence agency and possessing sensitive military information, Rajasthan Police stated.

42-year-old Paliwal was arrested earlier today on charges of spying for Pakistan, police said.

The suspect was allegedly sharing classified information about the Indian Army, police added.

He was later arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (special branch), Jaipur under the Official Secrets Act, police said.
