New Delhi: After political changes in Punjab, all eyes are now on Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, where Congress is facing a similar kind of situation. The speculations begins after Congress leader Sachin Pilot held a meeting with the party's former President Rahul Gandhi on September 17.
According to the sources, the in-house meeting lasted for almost 3 hours where both the leaders discussed the Rajasthan situation and the party's strategy for the 2024 General Elections.
The meeting comes at a time when the party was churning ideas over the crisis in Punjab, and just a day after, Captain Amarinder Singh was being asked to resign from the post of Chief Minister by the party high command.
Now, many of the party insiders believe that Rajasthan is next on Congress' list. It is also being learnt that Rahul Gandhi has made this clear to Pilot that there will be no change of guard in the state as he commands the support of a majority of party MLAs.
However, Pilot has once again been given an assurance by the senior leadership that a reshuffle would take place soon. While his close aides are expected to get a place in the Cabinet, Pilot has been given several choices to get a role within the organization. Also, leaders from the Pilot camp will get a position in Municipal/Board corporations.
A party insider said that Congress wanted Pilot to come to Delhi to join national politics and hence offered him a position of General Secretary Incharge for Gujarat. He has also been given an option to retain his position of Pradesh Congress Committee Chief of Rajasthan.
It is also being informed that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given a message to the party high command that he will accept whatever decision will be taken by them.
Recently, Rajasthan Congress in-charge Ajay Maken had said that the roadmap for Cabinet expansion and organizational rejig has been prepared but the announcement is getting delayed because of the ill health of Gehlot.
