Rail Roko: Railways says negligible impact on train services

Speaking to ETV Bharat's Niyamika Singh, Railways ADG (PR) DJ Narain said the 'Rail Roko' agitation had negligible impact on train services across the country. Train services continued to operate normally and passengers did not face any inconvenience, he said.

New Delhi: On the day of 'Rail Roko' call by farmer unions as a mark of protest against the three contentious agriculture laws, Indian Railways informed that there was negligible or minimal impact on train services across the country due to the agitation.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ministry of Railways ADG (PR), DJ Narain said, "The impact on Railways was negligible. Most of the zones reported not even a single case. There was only some impact in a few parts of North India like Punjab. Otherwise, it passed on without any untoward incident."

"We are very happy that train services continued to operate normally and passengers did not face any inconvenience," he added.

He also asserted that while dealing with the rail roko agitation, utmost patience was exercised by all concerned.

Asked about the number of trains cancelled or diverted due to the agitation, the railway official replied, "The figures would be very small. But prima facie, it was found that the 'Rail Roko' agitation remained unsuccessful and railways continued to operate its trains normally, barring some parts of Punjab."

Earlier, around 25 trains were regulated due to the agitation, which lasted for four hours from 12 pm to 4 pm.

Railways had deployed 20 additional companies of Railway Protection Special Force across the country especially in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
