New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday over the issue of farmers' agitation.

According to sources, Singh is expected to give his suggestions to ease the ongoing tension with a section of leaders in the Congress Party wary of the turn the agitation may take if prolonged too much.

On the same day, Centre is scheduled to hold the meeting with the protesting farmers and before this meeting, Home MInister is expected to hold a meeting with Amrinder Singh in the morning, sources said.

This meeting with the protesting farmers will be crucial as farmers have warned this will be the last chance the Centre gets to reform the new farm laws.

The previous meeting held on December 1 was a failure as the farmers had rejected the Centre's proposal to form a special committee that would help weed out the differences over the new farm laws.

Thereafter, the Centre asked the farmers’ unions to identify specific issues related to three recently passed agri laws so that they can come up with ‘clause-wise’ objections during the December 3 meeting.

Reportedly, the first meeting was held on November 13 and the second meeting was held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Minister of State Som Prakash on December 1. Even after these two meetings for several hours, there was no conclusion came out and the farmers have decided to continue their protest.

However, the farmers rejected the proposals put forward by the government and said that their protest will continue till the government repeals the newly enacted farm laws.

Singh has earlier demanded the restoration of the MSP system and legal guarantee to the same. He may even attend the meeting with farmers to help reach a settlement to end the ongoing impasse, sources added.
