Punjab Assembly: Second day of Special Session starts today

The second of the special session of the State Assembly called by the Punjab Government will be held on Thursday. The ministers said after the Cabinet meeting that there will be something special in the special session adding that bill to retain 36,000 employees, resolution to repel the agriculture law will be tabled during the special session.

Chandigarh: The second day of the special session of the State Assembly called by the Punjab government will be held on Thursday. The first day of the special session, held on Monday, was adjourned till November 11 after paying homage to the martyrs.

Several resolutions are set to be passed today. During the Cabinet meeting on today's special session, the bills which will be introduced were discussed.

According to sources, a bill to retain 36,000 employees, resolutions to repel the agriculture law are likely to be tabled during the special session.

The government will also bring a resolution condemning the Centre's decision of extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the international border. Separate resolutions to cancel the power agreement and the solar agreement along with the bill to curb the mafia will be tabled during the special session.

The first day of the special Assembly session was held on Monday. It is the 16th special session of the 15th Legislative Assembly. It is also the first session of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's government post the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh.

During the first day of the session tribute was paid to former Punjab minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, former chief parliamentary secretary Ravinder Singh Sandhu, martyrs — Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh and Sepoy Manjit Singh, president IFFCO Balwinder Singh Nakai, freedom fighters — Niranjan Singh and Avinash Chandra.

Meanwhile, before the proceedings of the second and last day of the special session started, Aam Aadmi Party took out a foot march from the MLA Hostel to the Vidhan Sabha took out a protest march from the MLA Hostel to the Vidhan Sabha.

The protesters had a heated argument with the police. Finally, police allowed the MLAs to enter the Assembly one by one.

The Leader of the Opposition Harpal Cheema accused the Congress government of cheating the people. He said that the government has not fulfilled a single promise so far. He further alleged that currently farmers are facing a shortage of DAP fertilizer but the government is trying to save the Congress party.

As for the extension of BSF's jurisdiction at the border, Harpal Cheema said that Chief Minister Charanjit Channi and Captain Amarinder Singh had sold Punjab to the Centre. He also said that the AAP will put up stiff resistance against such action by the Congress government.

AAP MLA Meet Hare said that the special session is of very short duration. "We wanted to talk on all issues of Punjab, but the government is running away from their answers, so we have to protest," he said.

Soon after the AAP's protest march the main opposition party of Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) held a protest demonstration in front of the Assembly. They raised slogans Congress of making false promises.

Former Revenue Minister and senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal Bikram Singh Majithia said that efforts are being made to remind Congress of election promises and Shiromani Akali Dal has formed a front against false allegations. He said that Congress has sacrificed the interests of Punjab to save the seat adding that the families of the farmers who committed suicide have not received any compensation. Majithia termed the Punjab Chief Minister as a compromiser.
