NR Congress-BJP alliance emerges victorious

The NR Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AIADMK alliance emerged victorious in Puducherry Assembly polls.

The All India NR Congress secured 10 seats, and about 25.8 percent of the total vote share, while the BJP won six, about 13 per cent. The AIADMK drew a blank but managed to garner 4.14 per cent of the total votes. While independents secured six seats, the Indian National Congress, whose government collapsed before completing its five-year term under Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, managed to score two seats and 15.7 per cent of the total vote share.The DMK, who fought the polls in alliance with Congress, secured six seats (18.5 per cent).  

After the NR Congress, BJP and AIDMK alliance crossed the simple majority mark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah among other leaders thanked the people of the union territory. NR Congress contested 16 seats and BJP-AIADMK contested 14 seats.  

The single-phase Assembly polling in Puducherry had a voter turnout of 81.70 per cent, according to Election Commission.

NDA wins 12 assembly seats, set to form govt

The NR Congress on Sunday won eight seats and its ally BJP secured four while the Congress-led Secular Democratic Alliance (SDA) emerged victorious in three constituencies as the counting continued.

As the results for 14 out of 30 assembly seats were declared, the AINRC bagged eight, BJP three, DMK one and Congress two, the Election Commission said.

NDA leads in 17 seats in Puducherry

The NDA alliance was leading in 17 seats, while the Congress headed alliance was leading in 11 seats and others in 1 seat in Puducherry.

The All India NR Congress leader and former Chief Minister N Rangaswamy is trailing by 673 votes in Yanam constituency of Puducherry. However, in Thattanchavady, Rangaswamy is leading.

U. Lakshmikanthan of All Indian NR Congress is leading at Embalam constituency and A. John Kumar of BJP is leading at Kamraj Nagar. SP Sivakumar of DMK is leading in Rajbhavan constituency.

NDA leads in 9 seats in Puducherry; SDA in 3

The AINRC-led NDA was leading in 9 seats while the Congress headed alliance was ahead in three segments after the first round of counting of votes polled in the April 6 elections, officials said. According to trends available, till 10.30 am, AINRC chief N Rangasamy was leading in his constituency. The NDA-led front comprises the AINRC, AIADMK and BJP. There are 30 Assembly constituencies spread over Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions. The chief contestants in the poll are the AINRC leader N Rangasamy heading the NDA in which the AINRC, AIADMK and BJP are the constituents. On the other side, the Congress-led Secular
Democratic Alliance (SDA) comprises the Congress, DMK, VCK and CPI.

Counting of votes for Puducherry Assembly Elections to begin shortly

Puducherry: Counting of votes for Puducherry Assembly Elections has begun today. The results will decide the fate of 324 candidates.

With opinion survey and exit polls predicting a victory for the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Puducherry, will the BJP be part of the next government in Puducherry, a land of Tamil speakers will be known soon.

The BJP has been finding it difficult to make a mark in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry all these years.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Puducherry consists of All India N.R. Congress (contesting in 16 seats), BJP (9) and AIADMK (5).

The NDA's rival for the 30-member Assembly is the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) consisting of Congress (14 seats), DMK (13), CPI (1), VCK (1) and an Independent (1).

The election was held on April 6 and the voter turnout was 81.69 per cent.

As many as 1,382 personnel would be deployed for counting of votes in the UT, while about 400 police personnel shall be on security duties.
