Odisha: Priest arrested on charge of molesting girl on Jagannath Temple premises

Police on Saturday arrested a priest of the Jagannath temple in Puri for allegedly molesting a minor girl on the premises of the shrine. He has been charged under relevant Sections of the POCSO Act.

Puri:A servitor of the Jagannath temple in Odisha's Puri town was arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting a minor girl, police said.

The incident came to light when the girl's family lodged a complaint at the Singhadwar police station.

As per the complaint, the incident took place when the girl was offering prayers at a subsidiary shrine on the premises of the temple. She ran out of the temple crying and narrated the incident to her mother.

The girl's statement has been recorded before a magistrate, and legal action is being taken against the accused, PTI quoted Superintendent of Police K V Singh as saying.

The accused has been charged under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
