J&K constable shot dead in Srinagar; 7-year-old daughter injured

A police constable was shot dead by terrorists in the Soura area of Srinagar while his 7-year-old daughter was injured after unidentified militants opened fire.

Srinagar:A police constable was shot dead and his seven-year-old daughter injured when terrorists fired indiscriminately at them outside their home in Soura on the outskirts of the city, officials said here. Constable Saifullah Qadri, the third policeman to be killed in Kashmir this month, was leaving home to drop his daughter for tuition when the attack took place, they said.

"At around 5 pm, militants opened fire on a policeman identified as Saifullah Qadri, leaving him critically injured," a senior official said. He further said, "Unfortunately, he succumbed while being taken to hospital. Qadri's daughter was also injured in the attack. She is currently undergoing treatment." The official added that her condition is stable. Qadri was a resident of the Malik Sahib area of Soura.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Vijay Kumar expressed grief over the killing and said police teams have been sent to adjoining areas to nab the culprits. "We will soon get them," he said. On May 7, militants shot dead a policeman at Aiwa bridge, close to the Anchar locality, while another policeman was shot dead in Pulwama district on May 13.

"The injured police personnel succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom. We pay our rich tributes to the martyr and standby the family at this critical juncture," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet. (with Agency inputs)
