Watch: PM to inaugurate, lay foundation of Somnath Temple project worth Rs 83 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 83 crore at the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat on Friday.

Veraval (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 83 crore at the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat on Friday. Several dignitaries including state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will preside over the event being held in Somnath. The project also involves Jyotirlinga Somnath temple and the Parvati Mataji temple which are to be built. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also take part in the event.

Prime Minister Modi is the chairman of the Shree Somnath Trust which manages the affairs of the world-famous temple located in Prabhas Patan town in the Gir-Somnath district.

Shree Somnath Trust (SST) trustee-cum-secretary PK Laheri said, "PM Modi will inaugurate three projects and also perform a virtual ground-breaking ceremony for the Parvati Temple coming up near the main temple for ₹30 crore." He said the event will be organized in the Ram Mandir auditorium of the temple on Friday.

The projects to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister include a one-km long 'Samudra Darshan' walkway which has been built at an estimated cost of ₹49 crore on the seashore behind the temple, a newly-built museum housing ancient artefacts built at a cost of ₹ 75 lakh, and the renovated 'Ahilyabai Holkar Temple' or the old Somnath temple situated opposite to the main temple, Laheri added. Also, the renovation of these projects cost around ₹ 3.5 crore, he added.

A special documentary on the development works being undertaken by the Somnath Trust will be screened at the launch. There would also be a march past by the students of Swami Narayan Gurukul and Shishu Mandir International School students on the newly built walkway.
