PM Modi hails Canadian PM Trudeau's election victory

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday won the third term in victory for Liberals in Canada's election. Trudeau's Liberals projected to win more seats than any other party with 158 - adding just one seat in 2019.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau on his victory in the elections and stressed bolstering ties with Canada.

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister said, "Congratulations Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau on your victory in the elections! I look forward to continuing working with you to further strengthen India-Canada relations, as well as our cooperation on global and multilateral issues."

Earlier this year, in a telephonic conversation with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, PM Modi assured that India would do its best to support Canada's vaccination efforts, just as it had done for many other countries already.

Expressing his appreciation, Prime Minister Trudeau had said that if the world managed to conquer Covid-19, it would be significant because of India's tremendous pharmaceutical capacity, and Prime Minister Modi's leadership in sharing this capacity with the world.

The two leaders also reiterated the common perspective shared by India and Canada on many important geopolitical issues.

Notably, both sides agree to continue the close collaboration in fighting global challenges like climate change and the economic impacts of the pandemic.

India-Canada bilateral ties are underpinned by shared values of democracy, pluralism, expanding economic engagement, regular high-level interactions and long-standing people-to-people ties.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Canada in April 2015 elevated the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership. PM Justin Trudeau paid his first State Visit to India from 18 to 24 February 2018.

The visits and meetings reaffirmed the breadth and scope of Canada-India relations, based on the fundamental principle of respect for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the two countries.
