Plea in SC seeks cancellation of Assam board exams

A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Assam government for the cancellation of Class X and XII state board examinations due to the prevalent Covid-19 pandemic situation.

New Delhi:A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court on Monday against the Assam state board conducting class 10 and 12th offline exams during the pandemic.

"That since this issue involves many state boards, some of which have already decided to cancel the board examination for this academic year on the ground of prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, it is humbly submitted that in the interest of justice and equity, for the safety of lakh of students, their parents, guardians and family members from the state of Assam and for the effective and proper adjudication of the writ petition, the present applicant may kindly be allowed to participate in the present proceeding," read the plea.

The plea also read that on various occasions the Chief Minister of the state reiterate that examinations will be conducted which has created a situation of panic and havoc among the students and their families. CBSE and ICSE board examinations have already been cancelled and they have been asked by the apex court to submit their mechanism for evaluating students. In the hearing the court had also assured that it will look into state boards as well and all the students will be taken care of.
