Tripura HC serves notice to state government regarding Covid management

The High Court of Tripura division bench served notices to Tripura government answerable within one week of time regarding the state's preparedness to combat the second wave of pandemic.

Agartala:The High Court of Tripura division bench on Monday served notices to Tripura government answerable within one week of time regarding the state's preparedness to combat the second wave of pandemic. The bench including Chief Justice A Kureshi and Justice S Talapatra was hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by lawyer Bhaskar Debbarma.

Advocate Rumela Guha, appearing for the litigant, said, "We have raised three specific issues through our litigation.The first point in the list of the matters stands localised triage system. In Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a triage system has been devised to ensure access to healthcare for the Covid 19 infected patients subject to their health conditions. In Delhi, the system has collapsed because this system is not followed whereas in Mumbai the number of cases begin to decrease".

In the next two points, she said, the petitioner Bhaskar Debbarma wanted to know from the state government regarding the availability of oxygen, medicines, equipment, ventilators and other pertaining materials. The Court after hearing the petition issued notices to the state government directing it to revert within one week of time, she said.

According to her, all the Covid 19 related petitions were clubbed together and fixed to be heard after one week. Apart from Guha, advocate Niharika Sarma, Dhruba Jyoti Saha, Mrinmoy Debnath also appeared on behalf of Debbarma. Advocate General Siddhartha Sankar Dey pleaded the Court on behalf of state government.
