Rajnandgaon: A 65-year-old patient died on Tuesday night after the cylinder attached to his ventilator support system overflowed with oxygen and exploded. The incident happened in Medical College Hospital in Chhattisgarh when the ward boy was reportedly trying to change the cylinder but due to excessive pressure, it exploded.
The deceased, identified as Mohan Singh, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was kept on oxygen support. He was undergoing treatment in the ICU ward after he complained of a stomach infection.
As a precautionary measure, at least nine patients were shifted from ICU to other wards of the hospital to prevent any untoward incident.
As per the latest reports, no reports of casualties have been reported till now and a major accident was averted by taking timely action.

Superintendent Ajay Kosa, in-charge of Medical College Hospital, said, "The deceased was undergoing treatment for stomach infection and was in a critical condition when admitted."
Denying the allegations that the patient died due to the cylinder explosion, he said that Mohan Singh died due to health-related complications.
The hospital management and the police officers deployed at the hospital have been locked in a war of words over the death of the elderly patient.
A probe has been initiated by the district administration officials but they have refused to comment on the same. The body of the deceased patient has been sent for post-mortem and statements of various people have been recorded in connection with the death.
