Pakistan fails to address abduction case of Afghan envoy's daughter

As per a press release, during Afghan delegation's visit to Pakistan, officials of the latter country did not address basic issues such as how the incident took place and identification of perpetrators. The officials pointed out a different version of the case and shared some information and findings with the Afghan delegation.

New Delhi:Afghan delegation visited Pakistan in connection with the abduction and torture of the Afghan ambassador’s daughter in Islamabad on July 16, 2021, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan said on Tuesday. It should be noted that the visit comes amid escalating tensions in Afghanistan.

As per a press release, Pakistan officials did not address basic issues such as how the incident took place and the identification of perpetrators. The officials pointed out a different version of the case and shared some information and findings with the Afghan delegation. Even though the Afghan delegation demanded Pakistan officials to share all related information for further technical investigations, it was not disclosed.

The hospital and medical reports along with other available evidence indicated that Silsila Alikhel had been abducted and tortured.

The press release further expressed Afghanistan government's willingness to cooperate to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again called on the Pakistani government to focus on expeditious identification, apprehension, and prosecution of the perpetrators of the abduction.

Afghan foreign ministry's statement earlier said that Silsila Alikhil – daughter of Najibullah Alikhil, the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad was abducted for several hours and tortured by unknown individuals while she was returning home on July 16.

Afghan ministry condemned and asked Pakistan government to take necessary actions swiftly to ensure the security of the Afghan embassy and consulates, as per reports.
