No weekend lockdowns in Kerala; State to ramp up Covid-19 testing process

Despite Kerala witnessing a surge in covid cases, the state government has decided not to impose weekly lockdowns in the state. A COVID-care committee chaired by the Chief Secretary took this decision.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): Even though the state is witnessing a surge in covid cases, the government has decided not to impose weekly lockdowns in the state. The decision regarding this has been taken in a Covid-core committee meeting chaired by Chief Secretary.

At present there is no situation demanding implementation of weekend lockdown, it further evaluated. Meanwhile, the night curfew imposed in the state will come into force today.

The curfew will be in effect from 9 pm to 5 am for two weeks. In the meeting, it was decided to increase the covid tests in those areas which come under local self-government institutions where the positivity rates are higher.

It has been decided to collect samples of people from all homes in such areas.

Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts have the highest rate of positivity. Massive testing will be conducted in these districts. RT PCR test should be conducted as much as possible, where the (Test Positivity Ratio) TPR increases.

The meeting also approved conducting a genome study on the coronavirus mutant strains and decided to work with a target of reducing the TPR.
