Thiruvananthapuram:An all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has ruled out the need for total lockdown in Kerala.

The chief minister and representatives of CPM and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) agreed to the proposal put forward by the Leader of Opposition, Ramesh Chennithala. However, the meeting decided to continue the mini lockdowns on Saturday and Sunday.

Representatives of political parties said another lockdown would be detrimental to the state's economy and the people's livelihood.

More regulations and strict restrictions like containment zones will be put in place in areas where the rapid spread of the disease is witnessed.

All political parties have accepted the suggestion to avoid celebrations on the counting day, May 2.
