New Delhi:The Centre has no proposal under its consideration for bifurcation of any state, including Tamil Nadu, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said on Tuesday. Rai's statement in the Lok Sabha came in reply to a question posed by Tamil Nadu MPs T R Paarivendhar and S Ramalingam whether the Central government had any proposal to bifurcate any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu.

The minister said even though several organisations and individuals have raised demands from time to time for bifurcation of some states, the government wasn't mooting one. "Presently no such proposal is under consideration," Rai said. "Demands and representations are received from time to time from various individuals and organisations for the creation of new states. The creation of a new state has wide ramifications and a direct bearing on the federal polity of our country," he said.
