New Delhi: Making a big revelation, former Union Minister and Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar Akhilesh Singh has said that at present there will be no organisational changes in the Bihar Congress and current president Madan Mohan Jha will continue as its president.
He said that whatever changes have to happen would happen only in the new year, adding that he had met Rahul Gandhi in this regard. He has drawn the attention of the party high command to the fact that panchayat elections are going on in Bihar which will go on for some time.
“Everyone should go to the ground and help the Congress-supported candidates in the fray,” Akhilesh Singh said. “Then in the end of October, by-elections are to be held in Tarapur and Kusheshwar Asthan assembly seats. Congress workers will have to prepare for that too. So, no changes should be made for the time being. According to the information I have, if there has to be a change in the organisation, it will happen in the new year.”

He said that he is not in contention for the post of president of the state unit of the Congress as he is a Rajya Sabha MP and he has to fulfill that responsibility. He is of the opinion that the new president should be someone who is is acceptable to the whole of Bihar and can take everyone along.
The tenure of Madan Mohan Jha, the current president of Bihar Congress, has ended. According to sources, Bihar Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das, who comes from the Dalit community, has suggested to the party high command that MLA Rajesh Ram be made president, but senior leaders of Bihar Congress told Das that the Congress in Bihar should focus on the upper caste community.
Rajesh Ram comes from the Dalit community. The senior leaders said that the party does not get much votes from the Dalit community. If a leader from the upper caste community is made president, then it will be in the interest of the party.
According to sources, the name of Akhilesh Singh, who is a Savarna and comes from the Bhumihar community, is doing the rounds for the post of president. The party can now get a new president and eight working presidents only in the new year. There are 19 Congress MLAs in Bihar, whom the ruling JDU and BJP are eyeing. Only MLAs can be made working president by to save the party from collapse. If there is talk of bringing in a new president in the new year, then Akhilesh Singh may be appointed. If he refuses, current president Madan Mohan Jha may be given another term.
