Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez after questioning him. The agency raided his office and residence in Srinagar this morning.
"Khurram was arrested by NIA after being detained during raids at his office in Amira Kadal and his residence in Sonwar. Currently, he is kept at the agency's Srinagar office, but will be flown to Delhi tomorrow morning," a police source said.
"The agency was assisted by the local police and the CRPF during the raids. It was not immediately clear when or what the case was, but appears to be terror funding," the source added.
However, the arrest memo handed over to the Khurram's family states: "the case (RC-30/2021/NIA/DLI), dated November 6, 2021, was registered under Sections 120B, 121 and 121A of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 17, 18, 18B, 38 and 40 of the UAPA. Khurram was arrested this evening at 5:55 pm from Church Lane (Srinagar) by the agency's Superintendent of Police G. Siva Vikram."
