New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sought a report from the Odisha government in connection with an alleged custodial death of a person in Puri.
The NHRC has sent a notice to DGP and Chief Secretary of Odisha and has directed to submit a report within 4 weeks.
Sambit Patra, BJP's National spokesperson had moved to NHRC seeking intervention in the matter on Friday and had met NHRC officials.
Patra had stated, "I have complained to the NHRC about the custodial death of K Ramesh in Puri. I have also complained about the inhuman way the deceased's parent have been picked up by local police and are being held at some undisclosed location NHRC has assured us help."
Patra also met family members of K Ramesh and the local unit of BJP protested against the death and demanded justice.
As per reports, K Ramesh died on Wednesday night. The local police said that he was arrested after a tussle with police while he was roaming around with the sharp weapon. Although, the family had denied these allegations and said that he was arrested from the house and died due to custodial torture.
