NEET Row: Tharoor says govt unresponsive to genuine concerns

Congress MP from Kerala alleges it's a disgrace to go ahead with the exam as scheduled, urges the government to work for the people and not the bureaucrats

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Thursday slammed the government for deciding to go ahead with NEET exams as per the schedule, ignoring the students' demand for its postponement. Tharoor said the NEET exams showed the Centre in poor light.

"The NEET exams show our Govt in a poor light: unresponsiveness to genuine concerns; admit cards not delivered to aspirants in time; failure to provide centres in towns they reside, thus requiring unnecessary & risky travels. What a disgrace to treat our #Covid warriors like this!" he tweeted.

On Tuesday, the MP from Thiruvananthapuram said the government had been subjecting students to "unreasonable exactions" and it was "shameful", adding that the BJP should work for the people and not the bureaucrats.

On Tuesday, #JusticeForNEETAspirants was trending on Twitter after thousands of students and social media users rallied to force the government to postpone the exam.

The students have flagged various concerns in connection with NEET, including the date of the exam September 12, as it clashes with other exams.
