Badaun: Hours after gang-rape and murder of a 50-year-old Anganwadi worker in Badaun triggered opposition's outcry and comparison with Delhi's 2012 Nirbhaya case, a team of National Commission for Women (NCW) met the family members of the victim. The NCW team sought details of the incident from the family members and stated that despite strict government rules, women crimes are on rise.
NCW has sought immediate intervention of the UP police and will send a report to its member to probe the incident.
NCW member Chandramukhi raised questions on police's inaction in the case and said, "Police has shown laxity in the case and had the woman taken to hospital for treatment, she would have been alive today. There is also a delay in the post-mortem report and the incident has sent shock waves across the country."
The family of the deceased has alleged police apathy for the delay caused in filing the FIR in the case.
The Commission, in a statement, said it is deeply perturbed by the reported incident and the alleged police apathy.
