Mumbai police detains actress Rakhi Sawant for offensive content on Sherlyn Chopra

The Mumbai Police on Thursday detained actress Rakhi Sawant for allegedly posing in an offensive video and photo of a female model that went viral on social media about a month.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Thursday detained actress Rakhi Sawant on the complaint of model Sherlyn Chopra, who alleged that Sawant showed an objectionable video of Chopra during a press conference and used objectionable language. Chopra took to her Twitter account claiming that Sawant has been arrested.

"BREAKING NEWS!!! AMBOLI POLICE HAS ARRESTED RAKHI SAWANT IN RESPECT WITH FIR 883/2022 YESTERDAY, RAKHI SAWANT’S ABA 1870/2022 WAS REJECTED BY MUMBAI SESSIONS COURT," Sherlyn Chopra, who had lodged a complaint against Sawant in November 2022, said in a tweet.

Senior Police Inspector Bandopant D. Bansode said that "she has been brought to the Amboli Police Station for further investigations and is under detention" in the case. Though the complainant Chopra claimed in her tweet that Sawant is arrested, the police have said that Sawant is presently being questioned.

Sawant had also lodged a complaint against Chopra accusing her of making allegations about her personal life with the Oshiwara Police Station in November 2022. The latest development came a day after a Dindoshi Sessions Court rejected Sawant's anticipatory bail application in the same case lodged by her professional rival. The actress-model duo shares a love-hate relationship in public and have been waging a war against each other on social media for some time now.

The arrest also comes days after Rakhi and her husband Adil Khan Durrani went public with their marriage on social media. Rakhi Sawant had changed her name to Fatima after the marriage and also now identifies herself as Rakhi Adil Khan. Reports say that the duo was scheduled to launch their dance academy at 3 pm today.
