MP Home Minister rescued, airlifted from flooded village

Narottam Mishra, the Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday visited MP's Datia district to take stock of the rescue operation in the flood-affected villages, but got stuck as a tree broke off and fell on his boat, damaging the motor. It was then that government officials sent an IAF chopper to rescue Mishra and airlift him to a safer location.

Datia (Madhya Pradesh): Home Minister Narottam Mishra, who was surveying the flood-affected villages in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district on Wednesday got caught in the floods and had to be rescued and airlifted. The minister was on a boat of the State Disaster Response Force when a tree broke off and fell on his boat, damaging the motor. Following which the government officials were informed and an IAF chopper was deployed to rescue and airlift the minister, including four other villagers.

The State home minister who was on an inspection of the flood-affected region, added that the ministers are on the field and the government's priority is to rescue people and shift them to a safer place. Mishra had even brushed aside the rumours regarding the Harsi Dam in Gwalior district being washed away due to heavy rainfall and floods.

In the footage, it can be seen that the minister dressed in white kurta and black jacket is seen being winched into the IAF chopper. Prior to his rescue, the minister had ensured that those people who were stranded in the flooded area were all rescued. Later, Mishra speaking to media said that the village of Kotra situated on the banks of river Sindh has been worst affected due to the floods. Meanwhile, the Army and Air Force are rescuing the people trapped in the flood-affected areas and taking them to safer places.

Contact with many villages lost due to floods

The rising water levels of Sindh river has led to several villages situated on the banks being engulfed. The connectivity between Roor and Kulaith villages of Indergarh area and many other villages were also cut off. On Tuesday, several people were left stranded in the Lamkana island area due to the rising flood waters.

On Wednesday, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that over 1000 people have been evacuated to safer areas and that he is continuously monitoring the flood-affected Gwalior-Chambal region. Rescue operations are on and people are being sent to relief camps, where they are being provided with food, clothes etc..., the CM added.
