Madhya Pradesh allows female cop to change gender, first in history of state

A woman constable posted in Bhopal District Police Force has finally got permission from the state Home Ministry to get her sex changed. Home Minister Narottam Mishra said this would be the first-of-its-kind case in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):A woman constable posted in Bhopal District Police Force can finally get her gender changed. She had sought permission to undergo sex reassignment surgery from the state government after her body started showing male bodily symptoms.

Granting her the permission on Wednesday, the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra informed that all procedures have been followed. It is for the first time in the history of the state that a woman constable got the permission to change her gender.

The constable had consulted the doctors of Jayarog Hospital, Gandhi Medical College, Gwalior, after she was diagnosed with gender identity disorder for quite some time. The doctors advised her to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Minister Narottam Mishra said that the constable applied to the Home Department after being advised by her doctor.

Back in 2018 Lalita Salve, a woman constable from Beed, Maharashtra, had undergone sex reassignment surgery while in service. Salve was the first woman constable in Maharashtra to get her sex changed.
