Betul mishap: 6-year-old boy trapped in 400 feet borewell for 24 hours now

A six-year-old boy fell into a 400-foot deep borewell while playing on a field at Mandvi village in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district on Tuesday evening. As soon as the incident was reported, the police administration reached the spot, and a rescue operation was launched.

Betul (Madhya Pradesh): The six-year-old Madhya Pradesh boy who fell into a deep borewell on Tuesday evening continues to be trapped even after a nearly 24-hour rescue operation in the area.

Tanmay Diyawar, son of Sunil Diyabar remains stuck at 55 feet after falling down a 400-foot deep borewell in Mandavi village of Madhya Pradesh's Betul district, an official said.

The boy was playing on the field at Mandvi village when he fell into the borewell around 5 pm on Tuesday. His father said that Tanmay was playing on the farm. "When he went to another field where the borewell was open, Tanmay fell into it. My 12-year-old daughter saw him and informed me that he fell into the borewell. We immediately rushed to the spot. He was breathing and we listened to his sound from the borewell. The rescue operation was started from 6 pm onwards on Tuesday," Sunil added.

As soon as the incident was reported, the police administration reached the spot and a rescue operation was launched. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been personally monitoring minute-by-minute updates on the rescue operation.

"I have instructed the local administration to take necessary steps. I am in constant touch with the administration. The rescue team is trying to save the child safely. I pray for the well-being of the boy," the CM tweeted.

Earthmoving machines were brought in to dig the area and arrangements were made to provide oxygen to the boy. A camera has also been placed to track his location. The child is stuck at the depth of around 50 feet in the borewell.

Betul Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Shyamendra Jaiswal said on Wednesday, "It is taking more time than what we expected because there are stones. We called a breaker machine at night to break the stones. JCB machines are also being used." He added, "We have reached a depth of over 40-feet so far and vertical digging remains. The medical team is also present on the spot."
