Karnataka: Woman sets two of her kids on fire, one died

A woman set her two children on fire over domestic issues on Tuesday in the Anjanadri hills near Mulbagal in the Kolar district of Karnataka. She also attempted to set herself on fire but she was prevented to do so by locals. One of her children died while the other is battling for life at a hospital.

Kolar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman allegedly set her two children on fire over domestic issues on Tuesday in the Anjanadri hills near Mulbagal in the Kolar district of Karnataka. One of her children died while the other is battling for life at a hospital, police said on Wednesday.

Jyoti, a resident of Palamaneru in Andhra Pradesh, was married at a young age to Thirumalesh of the same village despite the opposition of his family. The couple were facing domestic issues from the very beginning. On Tuesday, Jyoti took her two daughters atop the Anjanadri hills and poured petrol them while they were sleeping and set them on fire.

Locals spotted her sitting atop the hills and rushed to the spot after they got a burning smell emanating from the spot. Jyoti then confessed to the locals that she had set her two children on fire. She also attempted to set herself on fire but she was prevented from doing so. The locals reported the matter to the police.

Police reached the spot and admitted the injured girl to a hospital. A case has been registered at Mulbagal Police Station. The police have taken Jyoti into custody and are interrogating her.
