Minister Giriraj Singh wants to fulfil PM's vision of rural development

BJP leader Giriraj Singh has assumed charges of the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj today. Earlier, Giriraj Singh was handling the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying before getting the charge of the new ministries in yesterday evening's cabinet reshuffle.

New Delhi:BJP leader Giriraj Singh has assumed charges of the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj today. Earlier, Giriraj Singh was handling the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying before getting the charge of the new ministries in yesterday evening's cabinet reshuffle.

Soon after assuming charge of the new ministries, Giriraj Singh spoke to Etv Bharat and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the responsibility of the ministries of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. He said that he will try to fulfil the dreams of PM Modi's vision for village developments. He added that he will take PM Modi's plans and vision to the villages in the country and this will be his first most priority.

He further added that his ministry will work to connect the villages by roads. Providing housing to people in the rural areas is also a key focus area for his ministry. He also mentioned that more than 70 lakh self-help groups are functioning in the villages of the country and he will pay special attention to these self-help groups.

Giriraj Singh further said that the participation of women in the rural workforce is 32 per cent and he would work to increase the participation of women in the rural economy as it can add significant growth to India's GDP by 2.5 per cent. He will also help people during the Covid crisis by using the MNREGA scheme.

After the Modi government came to power, between 2014 to 2019, 1.55 lakh crore houses have been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojna (PMGAT), while 2.18 lakh kilometres of roads have been completed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Several other projects like the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojna, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana etc, are in different stages of completion.
