Srinagar (Jammu Kashmir): Two unidentified militants were killed while two soldiers were injured during an encounter between security forces and ultras in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said.
"So far two unidentified militants were killed during the ongoing gunfight in Shopian. One body has been recovered from the gunfight site while the identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained," a senior police officer told ETV Bharat.
"Two army soldiers were also injured yesterday evening while militants tried to flee from the area. However, forces managed to re-engage with them and the operation is still underway.
On Friday, Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific information about the presence of militants.
"Security forces were conducting the searches in the area when hiding militants fired upon them. Following which the forces retaliated and gunfight started, the official said.
During the exchange of fire, two Army jawans of 44RR sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment where their condition is said to be stable, the official said, adding, "one of them had received a bullet in the abdomen while the other in the hand."
