Drones to deliver vaccines, drugs in Telangana

Telangana government launched the 'Medicines from the Sky' project on a pilot basis in the Vikarabad district. Union Minister for Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the project. Life-saving medicines and vaccines will be delivered to remote areas using the drones under this project.

Hyderabad (Telangana): Drones will be deployed to deliver life-saving medicines and vaccines in Telangana. The most ambitious programme of the state government titled Medicine from the Sky was launched on an experimental basis in Vikarabad district on Saturday.

Union Minister for Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was the chief guest at the event, inaugurated the project. On a pilot basis, drugs were supplied with drones in Vikarabad. State IT Minister KTR and Education Minister Sabita Indrareddy were present on the occasion.

Drones to deliver vaccines, drugs in Telangana

The project is started to transport drugs to remote areas by drones. It is useful for the fast delivery of medicines and vaccines in case of emergencies. The drone travels for about 40 kilometers. A single drone can supply up to 15 types of drugs and vaccines. The drugs are delivered in four different boxes on the drone and these drones will travel at an altitude of 500-700 meters above the ground.

Addressing the event, state IT minister K T Rama Rao said that Telangana will use more of drones in different programs and experiments are underway. He said that the Chief Minister enquired about the technology and the CM believes technology is useless unless it is useful to the common man.

"Our government is using drones for the women's safety. Areas prone to irregularities such as mining can be cordoned off using drones. Begumpet Airport should be turned into an aerospace training center. Begumpet Airport should be converted into an Aviation Varsity. The CM will soon open a new collectorate in Vikarabad," the minister said.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the central government is going to create an interactive aero space map and will work with all the states of the country. He congratulated the youth who are sending drugs with drones and said that Prime Minister Modi's dream is to provide technology.

"The central government has a clear idea on drone policy. Modi's way of thinking is different in technology. We can't look down on startups as they are emerging high in the technical field. Many changes are happening in aerospace technology gradually. We will discuss with all the states and set up green zones" the minister promised.
